There is no question that hot hatches are rad. They carry a combination of day to day functionality, wrapped in a balanced driving package. In fact, when a hatchback is factory produced correctly, it often results in a sought after classic. Think about this, hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen GTI, Ford Escort or even the new Ford Focus RS have all earned high ranking spots on petrolheads automotive lists. That’s not a coincidence, a proper hatchback brings a breath of fresh air to a coupe and sedan oriented automotive realm.
In fact, the only thing that makes a hot hatch even cooler, is when you come across one that’s done up like Mark’s. This is his Audi S3 and it’s, without question, one of the most gorgeous cars in I’ve seen in Ontario. It has a perfect balance of uniqueness with subtle changes that have added to its’ magnificence.
This Audi is originally from Japan, as two door S3’s were not available in North America. Mark stumbled upon this one when searching for a new car. Being after something a bit different and unique to Ontario roads, Mark found himself searching for options in the Japanese market. Searching tirelessly for something to fit the bill, he finally came across this Audi S3. It definitely fit the bill, being clean, two doors, and a proper 6-speed. The notion to get in touch with an importer and have it brought over to Canada was a no brainer.
When the car finally arrived, it was even better than the pictures portrayed. Being from Japan, it was in great condition and had no cosmetic or mechanical issues, leaving Mark to fiddle with the more interesting stuff he wanted to change with the S3.
The goal was to keep the Audi simple, but still add to its uniqueness. Mark decided to go with an airlift system, that way he could have the car sitting low but still maintain its usability. Mark believes in keeping things clean and simple, so he wanted to be able to drive the car reasonably hard without having to worry about dodging potholes and steep driveways. Next came the wheels, sourcing the right set to compliment the Audi’s simple yet elegant proportions was a difficult task, but Mark was able to source a gorgeous set of BBS RS’s. These wheels are absolutely magnificent and bring the whole car together perfectly. Without question, RS’s have the right look to transform most cars to the next level and once again they’ve done the trick here with this Audi. They provide a timeless look and give this S3 a certain graceful pop. All in all this Audi is by no means an extensive project, and Mark really didn’t want it to be. Rather, Mark invested his time and efforts into acquiring the perfect pieces for a project such as this. Going outside the box to find a car so unique to our local roads is a mission many would rather not attempt. Mark then decided to add to the cars strengths and only change a few little things, which completely transformed the car into this glorious piece of art. I completely agree with Mark in being a believer in keeping things simple, in the end I believe it’s this simplicity that will stand the test of time. Mark’s Audi is able to captivate your attention without yelling at you with body kits or extensive camber. It’s simply a car that has nothing to prove, yet kills the game all the same.
